FantasyFootball.com Staff League: Draft Results

Was Frank Gore taken too early? Look at the draft, then let us know in the comment area below.

Whew. I just endured one of the roughest fantasy drafts that I have ever been involved with in close to 20 years of drafting. Yes, we just finished our 20-team FantasyFootball.com staff league draft. I’m not sure if you have ever been in a 20-team league, but the draft is exhausting. We got to the end of the first round and I felt like all the good players were gone. The 2nd and 3rd round were full of picks that I would call “reaches”, but under the circumstances I could somewhat understand the drafting philosophy of our staff of experts.
If you want to follow along with the staff league, CLICK HERE for the league that is being hosted at www.fantasybowl.com.
As we get into the season, we will follow this league and update you with results of which expert called the shots correctly in this deep draft. This is a PPR league, yet Shawn McKeown still opted to draft Adrian Peterson with the first pick, so we will see if that works out for him or not. And I have to say I was disappointed when Greg Brosh chose Frank Gore and let Marion Barber fall to Perry Van Hook. Greg is an Eagles fan, so I think his heart may have gotten in the way. Or maybe it was my heart that is in love with Barber. Robb Harkey had the guts to draft Steven Jackson and he is looking good now that SJax is in camp and on the field. Harkey also stole Brandon Marshall in the 3rd round for what could prove to be one of the best teams that were founded on big question marks. Want to know how tough this league is? Our President, Craig Davis, was so fortunate to get the 19th pick that he was forced to take two WRs in Marques Colston and Larry Fitzgerald, which is great, but his RB1 is Jonathan Stewart…ugh!
I could go on forever about this draft, but I really want to know what you think of it. Who has the best team? Who drafted intelligently? What was the best sleeper pick in the draft? And of course, who stunk it up? What team will likely finish in last place?

Really surprised that Felix Jones went before Jonathan Stewart, Matt Forte, and Mendenhall.

yeah, why not do something that might be useful to the members here. Maybe try a 10 or 12 team PPR draft. That would be more realistic.

I agree this should have been split in half, and then we could have really seen where staff memeber vary on certain players. I have been playing Fantasy Football for over 15 year and have never seen a 20 team league when it has gotten to be that many people interested more than one league was formed and the champions of those league fought it out for supremacy
FIRST, TO CLARIFY THINGS SINCE SOME COMMENTS HAVE COME UP... THIS LEAGUE IS A KEEPER LEAGUE I HAVE BEEN IN FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS THAT HAS 12 TEAMS AND WE KEEP 4 PLAYERS AT THE END OF EVERY SEASON. LAST WE ARE NOT RESTRICTED ON HAVING TO PLAY A WR AND/OR A TE, WE JUST NEED TO START A QB, K, DEF, AND ANY 5 POSITION PLAYERS. SO being in a league this long its not hard to have the players i have especially since its a crap shoot every year who gets the number 1 overall draft pick.
QB-----Tony Romo (team QB) Chad Penninton " Eli Manning " RB-----Frank Gore Marion Barber III (The)Adrian Peterson Ryan Grant Felix Jones Chris Johnson Steve Slaton Tim Hightower WR----Terrell Owens Ted Ginn Jr. Torry Holt K------Tennessee DEF---Carolina 4 Pts Passing TD 3 Pts for 300Yds Passing 6 Pts Rushing/Recieving TD 3 Pts for 100yds Rushing/Recieving |

I also question how a 20 player draft is of any value to subscribers. Some drafters could not have taken this too seriously. Craig, you may need to see me for some decent RBs.

For those of you who are wondering how this helps most drafters, remember we did do several 12 team mock drafts/auctions that can be found in the magazine and draft guide.

I don't know it might help people who do drafts that are larger than 10 or 12 teams. The ignornace on this site from the posters truly is astoudning.

There goes Sheiner taking another WR in the first round. Apparently still working on disproving his own theory.

Here is a 14 team mock draft that we did and we have mock drafts in the Draft Guide and Magazine.
http://fantasyfootball.fantasyplanet.com/articles/14138 Here is a 12 team mock that we did. http://fantasyfootball.fantasyplanet.com/articles/14132 I apologize to those that negatively commented on the 20-team league. It is a challenging way to involve all of our staff. Most everyone is familiar with a 12-team draft, so the 20-team adds more strategy to it. Ryan Brooks

Ignore those fools, paying members though they may be.
I think this helps rank players more efficiently, as most will take the mvp available, rather than take the best at a certain position, because they need to fill said position. Thanks. |
